Now you drive

20drivers per room in Multiplayer
19bots on the Practice grid
32tracks to choose from

Driving Mode is an experimental mode where you accelerate, brake and take the corners yourself. It is separate from the championships: you jump in, drive, and go back to automatic whenever you like.

While you drive, your automatic race keeps running in the background and earns as usual. Items obtained in it during that time appear when you go back to automatic.

Getting in and out

  1. Click DRIVE, the button above the racing strip, on the right side.
  2. Choose Multiplayer to race online or Practice to race against bots.
  3. To leave, click DRIVE again or press Esc and confirm. On the finish screen, choose between racing again and going back to automatic.
Drive is the button above the strip. The intro shows the two modes, Multiplayer and Practice, and the controls: Accelerate, Brake and Steer. Click to enlarge.

The DRIVE button appears when the game is connected and the Garage is closed.

Keys go by their position on the keyboard, and the on-screen legend shows the letters of your layout. There is no gearbox and no other controls: accelerate, brake at the right moment and pick your line.

What counts in Driving Mode

  • Same cars for everyone. Performance does not depend on your parts, stats or Mastery: it all comes down to your driving. You drive with the look of your selected car.
  • No rewards. It doesn't count toward championships, points or League ranking, and gives no Credit, Mastery or crates.
  • No wear. Driving doesn't use up your car's Condition or add mileage for paint.
  • Track of the day. The race uses the weather of the day; in the rain, the track has less grip.

Every corner has a speed limit. Above it the car slides outward, and off the racing line the track grips less. An on-screen warning shows the corner coming up. Following closely behind another car gives you a slipstream and helps you overtake.

Multiplayer

Race online with up to 20 real drivers on the same track. The rooms screen lists the open races: search by the name of a room or a player, join one of them or create your own.

When you create a room, you choose its name, the track, the number of laps (from 1 to 10), the region, whether access is public or private with a password, and whether collisions between cars are on. Prefer the region with the most ping bars: the more bars, the better the connection.

Create Room: room name, track and laps on the left; region with ping bars, access (Public or Private) and Collisions on the right. Click to enlarge.

Inside the room you see the players, each one's points and ping, talk in the chat and mark yourself as ready. Whoever created the room can edit it, remove a player and start the race once there are at least 2 players, all ready.

  1. Qualifying: each driver runs one timed lap alone on the track.
  2. Grid: the qualifying times set the starting order.
  3. Race: everyone starts together at the lights and races the room's laps.
  4. Results: the screen shows the podium and the finishing order; then everyone returns to the room for the next race.

Points add up with every race and only count inside the room, for as long as it exists. They don't feed into any ranking in the game.

There is no pause in Multiplayer: the race goes on for everyone. If the game window loses focus, your car brakes to a stop; click the window to drive again.

Practice

In Practice you race against 19 bots on any track you like, to learn every corner before heading into Multiplayer. Choose the track, the number of laps and whether collisions with the bots are on. You start behind them.

Practice: choose the track, the Laps and Bot Collisions. Best Lap and Recent Laps keep your times on that track. Click to enlarge.

A line drawn on the track shows the racing line and changes color with your speed: green when you can hold it, yellow when it's time to brake and red when you're too fast for the corner. The line only appears in Practice; in Multiplayer only the corner warning remains.

The green line ahead of the car is the racing-line guide; the arrows at the top warn of the next corner. On the left, your lap and speed; on the right, your position. Click to enlarge.

The finish screen shows your position, the race time, each lap time and your best lap. The Practice screen keeps your fastest lap and recent laps on each track while the game is open.

Practice pauses on its own when the game window loses focus, when you open the Garage or during the exit confirmation.
